Integration strategy

Integration assessment starts with the existing workflow.

Ontara records systems, responsibilities and required data flows together with the practice network. The assessment determines which connection may be useful and technically viable. Required permissions and regulatory approvals are identified with the responsible parties.

01

Map the system landscape

Every network has a different combination of practice management systems, telematics infrastructure and local working methods. The site assessment creates a reliable foundation before an integration is planned.

  • Document existing systems and responsibilities
  • Identify manual handoffs and duplicate data entry
  • Record technical and organisational constraints
02

Start with the data flow

The name of a standard does not determine its value; the concrete workflow does. For each step, the team establishes where information originates, who needs it and how it may be passed on securely.

  • Define the source, destination and purpose
  • Transfer only the information that is needed
  • Agree ownership and a fallback route
03

Choose the appropriate connection

Depending on the system and care workflow, the appropriate option may be a direct interface, a controlled import or export, or an adjustment to the process. The solution is defined only after technical assessment; there is no blanket compatibility promise.

04

Start viable connections within clear bounds

If the assessment confirms a viable connection, implementation starts with a clear scope, acceptance criteria and a fallback route. Further data flows follow only when that step is technically stable and demonstrably improves day-to-day work.

FAQ

Which practice management systems does Ontara connect to?

Ontara does not currently publish a blanket compatibility list. Assessing the existing system, required data flow and available technical access determines whether a connection is feasible and, if so, what scope may be appropriate.

Does Ontara support HL7 FHIR, KIM secure messaging or Germany’s electronic patient record (ePA)?

These standards and services may be relevant to a specific workflow, but mentioning them is not a promise of a live direct connection. The project determines which standard is required, whether the route is direct or through an existing system, and which approvals are needed.

Does an existing practice system have to be replaced?

No. Ontara follows a connect-instead-of-replace principle. Replacement is not assumed; the first step is to assess how the required workflow can use the existing landscape.

How does integration planning begin?

It begins with an initial conversation and a site assessment. Together, the team narrows down the systems, responsibilities and first data flow that needs improvement.

Where does a manual handoff happen today?

Tell us about the systems already in use and the point in the workflow where information is currently passed on manually.
